Our Story

Silk Cycles began its journey in 2015, when Jake launched the business from a humble shipping container, single-handedly building its foundations from the ground up.

Between supporting the local community with top-tier bike servicing and repairs, he was also travelling the globe on the World Cup circuit with the FMD Racing Team—building a reputation for precision, reliability, and race-ready expertise.


Today, Silk Cycles has grown into a thriving workshop in Marsh Barton’s Bakers Yard, evolving from its grassroots beginnings into a go-to hub for riders who expect the very best.

It All

2015 - FMD
Jake joined the FMD Racing Team as a mechanic for Kaos Seagrave & the junior downhill racers
2019 - INNSBRUCK
Kaos takes the gold in Innsbruck, placing first in Crankworx Whip Offs, with Jake celebrating his first win with the team
2019 - MARIBOR
In 2019, Jake became Tahnee Seagrave's mechanic on the World Cup circuit, where they went on to get their first win together in Maribor
2019 - MONT ST ANNE
In 2019, Jake became Tahnee Seagrave's mechanic on the World Cup circuit, where they went on to get their first win together in Maribor
2021 - LES GETS
Ending on a high, Jake secured one more win with the team when Tahnee finished first in Les Gets.

What We’ve Been Up To

REDBULL HARDLINE 2024

In June, we took Silk on the road to deliver mechanical support for the riders of Red Bull Hardline as they pushed their limits on one of the toughest downhill courses on the planet. As the first independent bike shop to ever be a vendor at the event, we were beyond stoked to be part of something so massive and iconic. With the prospect of our much-loved local MTB spot being reborn as an official bike park, we were all in—and so were you! Together, you helped us raise £1,500 to fuel planning permission, trail building, and everything needed to bring this dream to life. COOKIE JAM 2024

We were back once again for the 15th anniversary of Cookie Jam, providing mechanical support for this iconic local Exeter event. We absolutely love being part of a fundraiser that has raised over £28,000 for Hospice Care since it began, all while bringing together an amazing community of riders from every generation.
